"Leatherheads," starring George Clooney, Renee Zellweger and John Krasinski, offers moviegoers great football moments, hilarious sexual tension along with other comical elements.
Yet, the movie may disappoint with its lack of focus in the plot and its slow pace.
The movie follows Dodge Connolly (Clooney) and his laughed at football team in the late 1920s during the early years of pro-football.
When his team is in danger of being shut down, Connolly signs Carter Rutherford (Krasinski), a decorated war hero and Princeton football star, to join the team.
This famed football star draws the attention of journalist, Lexie Littleton (Zellweger) who hopes to uncover the truth about Carter's war history.
Lexie catches the eye of both Carter and Dodge leading to a comical love triangle, betrayals and clever moments throughout the rest of the movie.
"Leatherheads" is a feel-good comedy with its slap-stick humor, clever banter between Zellweger and Clooney and hilarious insight into the no-rules days of early football. Although the wonderful cast offers great moments, overall the movie is forgettable with a lack of driving force behind the plot.
The problem lies in the many mind- cluttering sub-plots that were created in the slow paced two hours of the film.
For those in need of a few laughs or who love the game of football, "Leatherheads" is worth seeing, yet for many it will remain one of the many forgettable sports comedies that occupy the screen this year.
