More than half way through the conference schedule, the men's basketball team is still searching for their first conference win. This past week, LHU dropped PSAC West contests at home to California and on the road to IUP. The latest loss dropped the Bald Eagles' record to 0-7 in the conference.
IUP 76 LHU 63
The last time these two teams met, IUP's starters dominated the game from the start. Monday night, the Indians' bench stepped into the spotlight, outscoring the LHU bench 45-11.
The Haven's usual suspects, seniors Quentin Terry, Joe Walker and Eddie Christiano, continued to lead the way, as the Eagle starters outscored IUP's, 52-31. Terry led the way with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals. Walker added 14 points, and a team-high eight rebounds and five assists, while Christiano chipped in with 12 tallies and three long range shots.
For the third straight game, LHU won the turnover battle, 18-13, however, that wasn't enough to scratch the win column.
California 67 LHU 57
Seven LHU turnovers in the first 10 minutes put the Bald Eagles' in an early hole against the Vulcans, 22-5. After a quick timeout by Head Coach John Wilson, the Haven used timely treys by Christiano and James Chappell to go on a 16-4 run, cutting the deficit to five points.
However, when 50 fouls are called in a game, it makes it hard for a team to get in a rhythm, especially a team that is trying to come from behind. CalU shot 44 free throws, 35 in the second half, compared to LHU's 20 attempts from the linr.
Christiano led the way for the Haven with a game-high 17 points. Terry and Walker contributed 12 and 11 respectively. Walker added 11 boards for his team-high fifth double-double of the season. Chappell chipped in with nine points off the bench.
Tonight the Bald Eagles begin a stretch in which they play four of their next five games in the Thomas Fieldhouse. LHU will host the Golden Eagles of Clarion University at 8 p.m.
